  • This is the first time I tasted this winery's 100% assyrtico, which is practically not available in Greece. Having tasted the winery's 2 other assyrtico blends (Biblia Chora Estate White, with sauvignon blanc and the flagship Ovilos with semillon), and having wondered where was assyrtico's character hidden in both cases, I am now even more surprised to find out thet even this monovarietal assyrtico, lacks assyrtico character, at least as we know it. Medium yellow with green hues. Ovilos-like nose with tropical fruits like mango and pineapple, ripe peach, hints of grassiness. Mid-bodied with bright fruit and high acidity, crispier than the 2 aforementioned blends. Medium aftertaste. A good wine, no doubt, but the winery's style dominates leaving no room for assyrtico's varietal character to show. Heavy-handed winemaking, indeed.
