  • A beautiful nose of black cherry, violets, earth, mint and ironstone. The palate is layered and fleshy. It has great depth and complexity. Tannins are ripe and supportive and there’s a thread of licorice weaving through the flavour profile. Still supremely youthful, but utterly delicious.

  • This is really good; open enough to drink now, but still with loads of time ahead; absolute essence of Barolo for me; raspberry, black cherry, tar, tobacco, forest floor, mint, and floral notes; so powerful and yet balanced on the palate; deep and long; so good and with loads of time to go.

  • Old Guy's Potluck Lunch at Lonny's. Dave's btl. I love G Conterno's Cascina Francia. Especially in a a more accessible riper year like '09. Barolo is one of those reds that could out-live today's 45yr old collector before its drinking well:). The '09 is very enjoyable now & will surely improve with cellar time. And, in some "off vintages" the vaunted Monfortino even gets declassified into this cuvee. I'm super glad to still have 2 '09s left. Even more, that Dave D owns a few more than I :). As MN Wine Junkie, also in attendance noted, any red wine lover should own some of these! I'd also point anyone curious about Barolo to try the, always amazing, Vajra Barolo Bricco delle Viole which drinks earlier & is still a great value. Only thing keeping me from rating this a point or 2 higher was drinking it at warm "room temp". Had this just seen 20-30 minutes in the frig, it would have rocked even more!

  • Old guys luncheon (Lonny's Manor): This is only the second Barolo I have ever had that WOW'd me! Still not convinced to load up on Barolos, but this one makes a pretty good case on why you should! Drinking remarkably well for such a relatively young wine! Still, in a great spot for my palate! Leaning slightly on the fruit side of the spectrum (which I love), but still showing tertiary flavors in spades! I.e., the fruit is more prevalent, but does not dominate the palate, you still get that tertiary goodness!

The wine shows mostly red fruit (cherry) and some black raspberry with some dusty earth notes, dried herbs (mostly tarragon) and rose water, coupled with hints of anise, forest floor and tree bark. Drinking quite nice now! I would definitely have a hard time keeping my hands off this (and would not feel an ounce of guilt, as it is drinking that well right now!) 94+ for me, and my co-WOTN! (with the 1994 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle)

  • OG Lunch - Holiday Party (Lonny's Place, Mpls): Medium dark red color or more. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. We had this back in April and it impressed then. Nothing's changed now, just slowly getting better. Very nice fruit, strawberry preserves, roses, herbs, dusty, really plush giving tannins, sleek and well balanced, medium plus bodied, love it!
