  • Not a rockstar but better than a B-lister!

Age has been kind to this wine, still silky smooth and not too many wrinkles. Very mocha, cassis-fruit nose, body is medium with creamy smooth texture and very refined. Tannin is unobtrusive and oak never dominates. Quite a long finish without being memorable. Missing something though to be a great wine.

    Drink now to 2032+

  • Bob's cellar. Dark inky black red, no bricking at all. Sharp redcurrant nose, vanilla dn menthol, crisp cassis, black fruits. Taste opens with a matching sharp red fruits, still very bright & fresh and lively, tannins are there and firm rather than in your face. Feels very young and like there are years of life left, it still seems to have a long way to go. This has been stored perfectly since purchase. Day 3, still vibrant red fruit, softened a little, black fruit in the background, high quality.

  • Bob's cellar. Deep purple, dark ruby red, perhaps a very faint brick hue. Nose is violets, menthol and cassis, black pepper, red fruits appear as it opens up, plus some savoury tones. Opening tasting tones are firm tannins, bright red fruit, weight given by blackberry and cassis to temper the acidity. Still firm and structured, very good pnp opening. An hour later, has come together into a fine acidity supported, black fruit, pepper and nicely mature Cab Sav. Very good, and plenty of life left too.

  • 31122022 - New Year treat at Ed’s place. Another great bottle from Penfolds. Almost no sign of aging. Perfumed nose with black berries, cassis and eucalyptus + mint. Breathing in glass opened up to notes of forest floor and plenty of blueberry pie. Palate; delicate grainy tannins with opulent & juicy finish. Continued to evolve over the night with bell peppers, tobacco notes and dark spices. This is more savory and the finish is not as enticing as the 96 Grange

  • Not showing any deterioration arising from aging. Great Cabernet character with structure and lovely integrated tannins. Deep ruby colour but no signs of browning. Long finish with lovely complexity.
