Needs not much time to open up and will not hold much, but it has some classy bordeaux style evolution with a more intense roughness to it with milk chocolate, great acid, mushroom and leather on the nose, still great fruit on the palate with a slightly chocolaty and alcoholic finish... drinking very well, and long aftertaste .... last bottle sadly :)
hopefully the 2012 looks stunning, those Languedoc never gets better than in lesser years, or cooler vintages IMO :)

22 years old and still vibrant and very powerful! Major decant needed here. Classic Peyre-Rose nose with leather, licorice, violets, garrigue and smoke. Dark fruits, touch of heat on nose/palate. Still tannic but with a great structure. Hint of bitter stem on the finish. A very good wine but needs the right food with it!

Bouquet of black olives, earthy and herbal features, the palate is not as profound as in the Les Cistes of the same vintage nor is the texture as seductively velvety albeit it is evident that the two are siblings. In any case, the Syrah Leone is very good and drinking nicely now, the palate is consistent with the nose, good bite of black olives and herbs, spices, light peppery flavours and sour fruit.

I had a big disappointment with Clos des Cistes 95 which was well over the hill, so I am glad to report that this Syrah Léone was firing on all cylinders after a slow start. Indeed once the initial metallic aromas receded, it was like no other wine I have had. Still deep carmine coloured, it exuded dark complexioned brambly fruit gently infused with spices, balsam and tar and showed velvety texture, great depth and roundness underlined by a slight noble oiliness and it finished quite long with still firm but ripe tannins. I'm rarely a fan of Syrah from the Mediterranean and further south but this one convinced me. Very good.
