  • Full soft red fruits, juicy fruit notes, tea, sappy, licorice spice, good acidity, delish and long. Younger wine, guessed '05.
Very close tie with first place, this was 2nd over all for the group. DD at Cotsen's

  • Clearly the odd man out here but thought this Corton was rather lean and one-dimensional and although still tight, the cherry fruit is pretty straightforward, did not pick up on any of the "broad-shouldered flavors," "breathtaking power" or "mouth coating finish" Meadows did, maybe it's just too young but I doubt it, I think J. Robinson's review was the closest to my experience, don't get me wrong, it's not a bad wine it's just not a 95 pointer

  • Dinner at Darren & Sophia's (Fifth Avenue): Still way too young, but this was quality. The nose was still rather tight and subtle, with notes of fresh herb and spice and a bit of toasty oak drifting through a core of red cherries and darker blueberries fringed with a little floral hint. The palate had a lovely clarity and strength to it, with sinewy, powerful notes of dark cherries and berries laced with flecks of spice and menthol. Still really tightly wound - this was coiled like a spring, with lots of tension and energy at its core. Very impressive though - a really complete wine, with true Grand Cru depth and balance, lots of muscle on it, but also an admirable purity and definition. Lovely finish too, long, full and satisfying, with dark berry fruit laced with more of those spicy notes.

  • Day 1: popped and poured. Approachable, but still young. Saved 1/3 bottle for Day 2.
Day 2: more depth and body than Day 1. Light-moderate aromas of red/black cherry. Flavors of red/black cherry, touch of forest floor, that finishes with light spice and light-moderate smooth tannins that linger for 30+ seconds. Moderate complexity/long finish. Barely rustic, if at all. Overall, a pure and refined grand cru with lots of upside after 2030. 92-94.

  • Faiveley has been producing one of the best red wine from Corton in recent vintages. It is properly rich and sexy, comparable to Cote de Nuits Grand Cru from good producers. Tasted blind – A potent array of dark fruits and smoked minerals.

Good acidity, juicy berries and fragrant spices. Ripe yet attractive and approachable now. Gevrey Chambertin Grand Cru, 2011, Perrot Minot? Chambertin Clos de Beze? (92/100)
