  • TM Mazoyeres vs Charmes Dinner.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of dusty stones minerality, hint of peonies, red cherries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of attractive red plum, red cherries, peony juice, stony minerality background. Long finish.
Very good quality. Good vintage, should be more open in a few more years.

  • I’ve scored this wine a little bit higher than others - it is a rarity to drink such a good bottle of wine, and certainly a rarity for me to drink GC from a great vintage. Medium red, showing little if any age. Red fruited, berries, spice, to taste quite linear and silky mouth feel. I really like Taupenot Merme, and will keep buying as long as they remain affordable.

  • Alex's 40th Birthday (Alex and Fiona's in AMK): Third time round, this remains a really enjoyable drop. It had a really pretty nose; a touch reductive and rubbery at first pour, but opening up nicely to show aromas of earth and spice, red cherries and berries, with a little whiff of almonds at the sides. The palate was very juicy and delicious, with fine but still quite grippy tannins and plenty of succulent acidity framing yummy round flavours of red cherries and rather darker berries seasoned with spice and earth. Full and powerful, yet easygoing and friendly at the same time - I really enjoyed this. it is drinking well now, but should continue to show well over the next decade and beyond.

  • 2 hours of air

Spicy, gorgeous nose of blackberry, dark raspberry, brewed grey tea and medicinal herbs. Palate is well structured, with pretty tannins, red fruits , a youthful zip, some Gevrey strength and heft, and a zippy fun finish. Great and wish I had more.

  • Zoom blind tasting #1 (At home): Really nice indeed. This has developed nicely since I last tasted it from barrel at the domaine. Today, is showed as a beautifully complete wine - this was my favourite of its flight actually. The nose was just lovely, with blueberries laced with violets, earth and spice, and just the little touch of oak. Very pretty. I could smell this all day. It was pitch perfect on the palate too - perfectly balanced and poised, with elegant tannins and well-judged acidity forming a lovely frame for full but effortless flavours of blueberries, again touched with notes of earth, mineral and peppery spice all drifting away into beautifully satisfying finish full of bright, juicy fruit and acidity. Such a complete, balanced, wonderfully poised wine. Starting to drink well now, but with many, many more years under its belt. Lovely stuff.
