brute of a wine, needs a lot more time before I broach another one, primary red fruits and good palate length and acidity, brawny tannins prominent, try again in 2021

This is big and bold yet very approachable thanks to the significant cellaring. Clear, medium (+) ruby with some garnet on the rim. The nose is clean and still developing, with ripe red and black fruit, some dried fruits and some oak influence. The palate is dry and consistent with the nose, with medium (+) acidity, medium (+) to high alcohol (14.5%) and medium (+) tannins. This wine begs for rustic Abruzzese fare, including roast lamb, pecorino and game birds. A fine example of what Montepulciano can do when the yields are kept low and subtle but effective oak cellaring is applied. It did not lose anything after being opened and stoppered for a week! Drinking fine now, but likely to evolve favorably through 2018.

Tight and maybe even a little rough at first, but softened rather quickly and began to feature rich dark fruit flavors especially blackberry. I think this wine will develop quite nicely in the cellar over a few years and look forward to its progress...

Really nice bottle. Was light but very expressive, smooth finish, present tannins and surprisingly enjoyable. A super value at $35CDN.
