  • 10.21.23 Tasting: The last bottle of my mixed library case released by Joel Peterson a few years back. It’s pretty remarkable that a 34-year-old Sonoma Merlot would not only be drinkable but very enjoyable. Cork was pristine and easily removed by an Ah-So. Medium bodied with a garnet color, on the palate the wine had complex flavors of faded red fruit, sweet fig, tobacco, and earth. 13.3% ABV.

  • At 32 years: medium ruby with some bricking. Cork was in good shape and easily removed with ah so. After two hours in decanter: cooked red fruit and deep savory aromas on the nose. The palate was more linear - a balance of mature red fruit flavors, acidity and present tannins. The nose betrayed the age more than the palate, which had a cleaner, more direct quality. I would not call it deep or complex, but it was pleasing - especially with food. Fair amount of sediment. Label info: 13.3 abv. Picked 10/12/89; bottled 7/12/91.

  • My friend usually only drinks whites. This is so smooth and beautiful, she loves these Ravenswood library release. Decanted and drank over 4 hours. I love these wines!

  • Wow, these wines just hold up beautifully. This has some nice crunchy fruits (not sure I understood this descriptor until now), some nice soft menthol notes, and lots of woods/earthy flavors that I love in aged wine. This is by no means fading away – with air this just keeps opening up and gets stronger and more complex. I am sorry I only got one bottle of this! At the price it was worth getting at least a case! After a few hours in the glass, it does start to go downhill, though slowly. A bit more bitter, the complexity fading a bit. So I think this is at its peak.

  • CHOCOLATE AND CHERRIES IN THE NOSE WITH BLUEBERRIES AND A TOUCH OF LICORICE IN THE FLAVOR. MEDIUM LENGTH FINISH.
