(Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spätlese) ($32.00) And a superb, light-ish Auslese – yes I know it’s a Spätlese, and it does have a refined shimmer of fruit and great fresh contrasts and relief, but there’s also the slight underlying syrup that identifies Auslese. Not “sweet” as such; just a concentrated little core. Extra fine wine.

Quince and spice on the nose. Pears and lemon on the palate. Pretty sweet with decent acid. Long finish. I liked it.

Nicely clean. Very fresh, almost effervescent. Needs some time to open but should be delicious.
