  • Significant improvement since my last bottle, this was drier and more precise, though less spicy. Really focused citrus and orchard fruit nose with heaps of steely minerality and a racy midpalate. Finish still a bit terse, but there was lots of texture and intensity on this bottle. Benefits from time open.

  • Immediately powerful and intense with a tropical fruit/herbal/mineral trio playing a very robust tune. Lime, passionfruit and winter melon with a sort of sorrel/sansho pepper note at the top middle palate while coming to an abrupt end laced with gravel and slate. Quite a few tartrate crystals on my bottle which may have taken a certain edge off this. My one complaint is the finish, which I found rather short. Excellent value for money and a delightful aperitif.

  • The cork is in so-so shape, which might contribute to the petroleum notes rising out of the glass. Lime, crushed stone (slate?), maybe a tad melon and pineapple linger together with the slightest herbal/floral feeling in the background. Mouthwise there is not much of the petroleum, instead a very re-assuring taste of fresh pineapple marinated in lime and then crushed to oblivion by stone. The fruit has sweet qualities, but it ends more or less dry thanks to serious minerals and a lovely acidity. This is a beauty that will develop. I like the current stage though, and don't think you need to wait any longer if you like your Riesling perky.

  • This is one amazing Riesling for the money. Surprisingly complex with hints of lemon, grapefruit and a touch of vanilla. Strong mineral hints that integrate all the flavors beautifully. Really nice to drink on a hot day.

  • great nose with white flowers, some tropical fruit and still in a restrained and elegant fashion. Very fresh and mineral driven, perhaps a bit thinnish body mid-palate wise, medium finish.

Terry Theise Estate Selections

(Leitz Rüdesheimer Bischofsberg Riesling Spätlese Trocken) ($26.00) I like to show a Bischofsberg, because its character is so completely apart from its next-door neighbor Berg Rottland. This ’10 is a round and almost fluffy critter, quite wildly herbal – tansy, lovage and nettles – all of which sound very tart but the wine is like cashmere and velour. Some Veltliners also do this Szechuan pepper thing, an uncanny mélange of soft structure and hard flavors. I find this wine original and soulful, very much a Leitz wine.
