Burgundy 2011 Day 4: Visit to Domaine Nicolas Maillet (Macon, Burgundy): From 80-year old vines, this was really good. The nose was flintier more minerally than the other wines that came before, along with gentle scents of white fruit, pears, and a dusting of appley accents and just a touch of cream. Attractive stuff - it could well have been a Cote d'Or wine with that nose. There was lovely integrated acidity on the creamily smooth palate running through bright fruit flavours of apples and sweet pears laced with a nice minerality and a citrus, lemon sorbet-like back-end - all very pure, with lots of finesse and long classy finish with a good amount of structure and extract. A lovely mouthful of stuff - this was a really nice expression of Pouilly-Fuissé. While drinking well in its youth, it should should get even better with time.
