Wow, this was so good tonight! Dark purple core, garnet rim. Nose is funky and layered, with blackberry, cassis, green pepper, tobacco leaf and a little hint of barnyard. Really rather Loire like, but oh so elegant. Palate delivers a juicy slick of tar-like tannin, smothered in blackberry jam with a green pepper topping! Great focus and a long refined finish, if just a hint of green on the end when drunk without food. Top stuff though.

Massive and dense (and that’s OK when offset with personality), and outshined the night’s CdP. Drinking well and well enjoyed with our steaks. One-plus hours in the air required.

A better showing than my last bottle from nearly three years ago. Popped and poured; consumed over two days. While this delivered from the start, I found it most enjoyable on day two. Dark cherries reminiscent of a kriekenlambiek from Drie Fontenein, pencil shavings, tobacco, earth. Deft balance. Tannins have integrated at this point. I thought it was a very high quality Cru Bourgeois and easily worthy of the sub-$50 price. Drink now with an extended decant or continue to hold and drink over the next 5-10 years.

Drinking well now. Another year would benefit it, but showing nicely. Pretty typical St. Julien, but better than average wines from the region. Great for the price point.

Still a little harsh even after a 2 hour decant. Should be better in another 3 - 4 years. Everyone's least favorite wine this evening.
