If you like your Claret with fruit this is not for you. Very nice nose of old leather, earth, cigar tobacco and a hint of smokiness. It’s basically all tertiary, no fruit left. But sweet Jesus is the nose intoxicating. The palate is very much alive and all savory: pyrazines, earth, root vegetables and leather. Still alive with medium acidity, fine grained integrated tannins and smooth finish. We had this with a nice saignant piece of beef and peppercorn sauce. Joy.
Funkadelicious. This bottle was very nice indeed. Great complex nose of blackcurrant leaves, smoke, animal funk and red berries. Enough fruit to match the funk on the palate as well, nice acidity and there is still a slight grip on the mostly integrated tannins. The profile stays savoury which was perfect with Saucisse de Morteau and lentils. There is still life in this bottle but i like the fact that the fruit is still noticeable. In a good place for me so I’m gonna drink them up soon. Day 2: One glass left. Tired and expired. Don’t decant on this one; Pop and pour and let slightly evolve in the glass.

World Cup final BBQ: One of the two 1990s that I brought to do a comparison between Bordeaux and Loire. Beautiful perfumed nose, fruit on the palate is fading but still very pleasant with some sweetness. A lovely, understated traditional claret.

Very mature indeed and still enjoyable if perhaps slightly outside of its drinking window. Drink up
