  • Drank from a 375ml with an Oct, 2013 Disgorgement (vintage blend: 75% 2006, 25% 2005.) This is definitely past what most people would call "prime." However, I have a soft spot in my heart for old Champagnes, so I'll provide a tasting note:
Aromas of white grape juice, maple syrup, guava, lychee, walnut. The aromas smell slightly sweet and the palate also tastes a bit sweet. Finishes with sweet Lemmon/lime like the green flavor of Gatorade with notes of fino sherry. The bottle says 6.5 grams/liter dosage, but it tastes more like an 8-9 grams/liter dosage to me. this is sort of like a 20yr old tawny port that was made into a dry sparkling wine.

  • Not as crisp as I would have liked, still light and pleasant. I think that I'm spoiled from some the the other Fat Cork selections.

  • Another winner from the Fat Cork.
It smells like bready. Very light and dry.

  • Sons and Daughters Cooking Up a Storm-Good Wines for the Occasion (Sons and Daughters, San Francisco): Half bottle. Yellow with a hint of brown. Oxidative, caramel nose. Fairly full, noticeably high dosage. Too sweet and plodding.

  • Popped and poured. Had the hardest time getting this Champagne open tonight. Put a towel over the bottle, loosened the muselet and began to twist the bottle. The cork spun fairly easily on it's axis without moving outwards (never had this happen before). Ended up having to rock the cork back and forth to get the first quarter inch moving and then the pressure in the bottle took over like normal. Light golden color with just a hint of green. The nose had aromas of biscuit (after it has cooled from the oven), pink grapefruit and with aggressive swirling, a component that landed somewhere between Madeira and root beer. On the palate there was granny smith apples, more pink grapefruit, lemon rind and a touch of turpentine (VA). Mouth feel starts out very broad and silky then cuts with a laser focused acid streak. The acid counterbalanced well against the pasta in cream sauce we had for dinner. The last glass by itself tended to be on the overly sharp side. Candied lemon peel on the finish that lasted a good minute or more. Would purchase again.
