  • This bottle was not as great as my memory was telling me it would be. The fruit was less bold in its statements and the nose didn't draw me in as before. It is a fine bottle of wine, just did not live up to the memory. Very dark in color and very good acid to tannin balance. Great with food; in this case a chicken parmeasan with a hearty read sauce.

  • I opened this bottle about 2 hours before we had it with the first course of heriloom tomatoes and mozzarella vs. the 1st bottle we had the previous week where it was pop and pour with nuts. The former was more eathy and restrained. The latter was much fruitier on both the nose and the palate, while the earthiness had receeded. While both were pleasant in their own right, I actually liked the pop and pour experience better. Maybe it was the stress of being the dinner party host.

  • I am new to this grape and region. I find Montepulciano a grape between Sangiovese and Grenache. It has a little of the earthiness and leather of Sangiovese and a little of the fruitiness and tartness of Grenache. I find it quite delightful when the tannins and acid are balanced this welll. This wine went extemely well with the garlic olives and Manchego we paried it with. I think this wine is ultimatley a really great food wine. It would pair well with a great many foods. If has a lot of fruit, probably more that the above mentioned grapes, but it sitll has the acid and tannin structure of a really well built wine. WInes from this region are currently priced welll below comparable quality from other regions, which puts me on the lookout for more Abruzzo's.
