  • The wine is old but still showed beautifully. After a shy start there's a nose with leather and mushroom. Still some black fruit on the palate. Fun to drink, not bad at all. (not very good either)

  • Consumed at home with turkey Mediterranean pasta. Bright disc. Deep red/garnet robe with garnet rim. Light brett on the nose, with moderately intense aromas of smoke, Provencal herbs, blackberries and earth. Medium-bodied on the palate, with medium-to-high acidity, melted tannins and similar flavors as for the nose. The brett does not impart any metallic taste to the wine. The middle is full and the medium-length finish is slightly tart.

  • Similar impression to 6/28/02, with the exception that the tannins seemed more coarse, giving the wine a somewhat dried out feel on the palate. The finish also was shorter. Needs time.

  • Tasted as an unknown at Vintage Wines, Ltd. with usual Friday group. Bottle brought from my personal cellar, having been given to me my Avelino Cortina. Bright disc. Opaque black robe with dark purple rim. Clean nose, showing moderately intense blackberry and smokey bacon. The nose develops nicely over 45 minutes of breathing in the glass. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, with good acidity and medium, slightly coarse tannins. The flavors are primarily black fruit and bacon. Medium, slightly hot finish. I would disagree with Parker's 2/28/01 impression that this wine is medium ruby in color and shows primarily red fruit. I would also disagree in the sense that, in my opinion, this wine will likely improve with a couple years of cellaring. Specifically, the tannins should soften and accordingly accentuate the lovely black fruit. It makes me wonder if Parker was actually tasting the same wine. This wine represents an exceptional value.
