  • This was ready to go without a decant. Still youthful appearance with an almost granache-like sweet floral top-note. Good inner mouth perfume, medium to full-bodied with svelte tannins and mouth-watering acidity. Threw a lot of chunky sediment. Very enjoyable now and, based on this bottle, I don't see much room for further improvement with additional cellaring.

  • Lunch at Chateau Davyd. Drank in Grassl 1855.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purplish ruby colour. Legs. Fine sediment towards end of bottle.
Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of integrated chocolate vanilla oak, sweet spice, black plums, black cherries, earthy minerality. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5% only!), plush high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of dark chocolate, cocoa bean, vanilla oak background, black plums, black cherries, peppery spice, stony rock minerlaity. Long earthy finish.
Very good quality. Quite a characterful Malbec. Significant oak signature a part of this internationally styled wine. Probably as good as it is gonna get already.

  • This week, 9 years ago, we visited 21 wineries in Mendoza, including this winery. This wine, our last bottle from that trip, and our homemade beef empanadas, bring back wonderful memories of that journey. This bottle is superb. It is big and powerful with youthful ripe blueberry fruit that has integrated well with the other layers of flavors. The finish is sublime.

  • Dense purple. Quite pungent nose of dark berries, mesquite charcoal and fresh loamy earth with a distinct floral note upon opening. Full, mouth-watering, rich dark-fruited palate with excellent length. The nose became more subdued after several hours while the palate continued to improve. Glass staining with lots of extract as evidenced by the heavy sediment. A very good wine that seems to have the stuffing to improve further over the next 5 years or so.

  • Seems to be in a good place. Fruit and alcohol now slightly mellowed and everything feels in balance with no decline.
