Chilled prior to opening. Gorgeous nose of peaches and lychee. Wonderful acidity on the palate keeps this refreshing yet allows the weight of the ripe fruit to show through. The finish is stony with mixed tropical fruit. I really enjoyed this viognier, it's well made and holds its age beautifully.

A superb rendering of Viognier! The clear, medium yellow-gold is loaded with apricots, yellow peaches, honeysuckle, and a fine minerality on the nose. Medium-bodied with medium acidity, the fruit carries through on the palate along with a slight yogurt tang and a pleasant steeliness on the finish. The finish is medium-plus in length and allows this balanced wine to linger to the next sip. Well done!

An incredible effort. Light sungold color, appealing clarity. Floral, lush, tropical and peachy on the nose, with a subtle hint of lime citrus resolving into bright acidity. This enables this medium bodied wine to carry itself to a clean, fresh and satisfying finish. Very atypical Viognier, this is undoubtedly the best rendering of the varietal I have ever encountered and all at a reasonable $17 price.

Winery Profile & Review: Two Shepherds: SRP: $21. Case Production: 24. Fermented & aged for 6 months in neutral oak. 100% Viognier. The nose offers all the potential of Viognier – it’s extremely aromatic, with striking notes of apricots, peaches, mandarin orange and bright minerality, along with some sweet yogurt from the lees contact. On the palate, the wine is a bit too heavy – it’s both oily and a touch alcoholic, with a sappy finish.

On the nose it exhibits classic, pleasant, Viognier florality, but not so overpowering it overwhelms, as this varietal can sometimes be, especially in California. Aromas of succulent white peach, star fruit, honeysuckle, and a hint of vanilla bean intermingle.
On the palate, one tastes stone fruit, mandarin orange, and nutty tones. The neutral oak and sur lees aging give the wine excellent weight, and viscosity, making it an excellent choice to pair with Dungeness crab, shrimp or scallops. The finish lingers with food friendly acidity, then drifts away, making you want more.
We chose cooler climates where ever possible, as we find the longer hang time at lower temperatures makes a wine of better balance and higher acidity.
