  • Not decanted, but should have been. At first an appealing pale yellow, then (oddly) darkening in the glass. Signature Savennières lanolin gives way to oxidative notes. Acidity and minerality are more inferred than sensed. Given long experience with these wines (several producers), I'd say wait 3-5 years. Betting on the magic of slow-ox chemistry under cool, dark rest.

  • My preferences when it comes to Chenin Blanc definitely lean hard toward the highly mineral and acidic expressions; this one definitely swings to the sweeter side of the spectrum. Strong crème brulée and tropical fruit aromas. Medium-full mouthfeel that isn't quite as heavy as a dessert wine's, but definitely reflects the higher reisdual sugar levels here. Moderate lemony tartness in the finish fades quickly. While this is not in line with my personal preferences, this is obviously a well-constructed wine.

  • Apple pie is always my note for good chenin, and this one had it in droves, with a touch of cinnamon spice. Rich and full-bodied, with a little heat showing, this wine tasted of lemon custard and pear-drop, with a splash of salinity and good minerality. The crisp acidity, the hallmark of all savennieres, was a bit piercing to me on this bone dry example.

  • Medium-full bodied - bordering on rich - with fruit notes of slightly baked green apples and stone fruit. Nice backbone of moderate acid and minerals. Thanjfully not too sweet. Should be even more interesting with some more bottle age.
