2019 base. This was glorious, with the comforting warmth of the best Meunier Champagne pepped up with something funky (dare I say - natural?). Marmite and malt vinegar, a hint of Speyside whisky, and a generously cosseting mouthfeel, both easy to drink and notably stimulating. Lovely with Noble Rot's superior quality bread and butter.

HDH auction at avec (Chicago, IL): LC20. Leaner style with an almost stemmy note. Definitely not my style of champagne -- taut and high tension but lacking breadth on the palate. I definitely used to like these more.

(NV (2007) LES BEGUINES Jerome Prevost La Closerie) Champagne Prevost Dear Friends, Discovery brings attention and Jerome Prevost can hide no longer. Not that he needed and further fanfare (much like his compatriot, Cedric Bouchard) but Prevost can't get out of his own way. The recent Antonio Galloni comments will only add to already meager allocation pressures and Prevost is in no hurry to increase production (in last week's HG, Galloni gave Prevost's NV Les Beguines from 2006 the same rating as 1988 Dom Perignon and 1995 Krug). A producer on the rise, with just as much investment potential as gustatory intrigue, this is a rare set of wines that will find their way to the head of the class in a hurry. With that in mind, please be patient with allocations - we were fortunate to discover Prevost when he was a relative unknown (and we still receive the same allocation) but demand for the wines has become quite fierce. The wines have become difficult to acquire and I'll just leave it at that. This is the new set from Prevost (2007), it is not the LC06 series that has been available in the US since last year. Both cuvees are EXTREMELY LIMITED (the Fac Simile is one of the most limited examples of Rose' Champagne imported to the US - I believe only a few dozen cases of the 2007 came to our shores): NV (2007) La Closerie (Jerome Prevost) Brut Nature "Les Beguines" (this is not the LC06, that is $65-70) NV (2007) La Closerie (Jerome Prevost) Extra Brut Les Beguines "Fac Simile" Rose' Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Champ8650
(NV PREVOST Champagne BEGUINES) Champagne Dear Friends, We first introduced Jerome Prevost a few years ago and the wines have gone from artisanal and intriguing to downright outstanding. This non-vintage cuvee is culled entirely from an old-vine parcel of Pinot Meunier and it is not only unusual but stunning in its expression. While technically labeled as a NV, it is actually 100% 2006 fruit. If you are a fan of Cedric Bouchard and/or Selosse, this producer (and wine) should be high on your list. Exciting and EXTREMELY LIMITED at this price: VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED NV (2006) Jerome Prevost La Closerie "Les Beguines" Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Champ3009

Really lived up to expectations. Wonderful balance between fruit and intensity. Went well with everything on the tasting menu.

Tasted at EMW Grand Tasting. Pear, apple, and nuts. Very complex with fresh fruit and saline finish. Refreshing but with huge body and character.

Vega Sicilia Unico Dinner with Pablo Alvarez (Asador Bastian - Chicago IL): Small glass. I have enjoyed this Champagne in the past, but found tonight's bottle to be too austere and tart, nearly hurting my teeth. Still very impressive depth.
