Tulip color. Fascinating combination of lemon, herbs, and verbena on the nose. Waxy, lanolin feel. Brisk citrus, blazing acidity, and strong minerality--this leaves the gums humming! Much cleaner than a bottle I had last fall, no trace of oxidation. Thrilling quality for an entry level Saumur and nowhere near being spent.

Tulip color. Waxy, wooly nose. Full bodied, excellent glycerine, superb acidity, and a lot of funk and earth on the finish. Dry, not fruit driven. Savennières in everything but name.

Light yellow. Some citrus, herbs, and distilled beverage tones on the nose. Medium weight Chenin Blanc. Dry, tart fruit, totally penetrating acidity and minerality. Very Savennieres like but cleaner and none of that wooly funk. Last tasted over 2 years ago, and it has not changed a bit. The blazing acidity will preserve it for many years. Fascinating wine that packs quite a punch for its level.

The thing with these wines is at certain moments I flip between loving it to wondering whether I've been stitched up with a crappy peice of crap. Admire the winemaking, and the minerals and depth of fruit can shift from struck match to chiselled rock back to butter - but depending on the mood it always comes back to "am I enjoying it?"
I think my answer is "yes, for the first glass". After that ... well, it depends on the mood.
Brilliant quality, no doubt - this bottle was leaner than previous ones. Needs food no doubt about that.
