Fully mature, feels like it will be a gradual downhill from here.Lovely nose of earth and animale and stewed red fruits. Good acidity and balance, good palate presence but very light through the midpalate and into the finish, perhaps a bit dilute. This is lovely wine in its way, but it's not outperforming either the vintage or the terroir.

Quite deep colour, starting to show some signs of maturity. Nose giving classic farmyard aroma, very dry on palete, a liitle lean, has the fruit dried out? Nose opened up some more after 20m in the glass, but remained thin on the palete, with little complexity developing. Disappointing compared to other vintages of this wine, like the great 1985.

Savigny at RSJ (RSJ Restaurant, London): Magnum. Nice nose, quite ripe with slightly cherry fruit. Quite firm, minerally, opening out in the glass. Doesn't quite get over a slight dryness/austerity on the finish but very decent. ***

very rich, concentrated for a savigny les beaunes (it comes from 100 year old vines). Very perfumy on the nose, mixing meaty and floral notes. Good texture in the mouth, with tanins still relatively presents. Still 4/5 years of potential.

(Clair Bruno Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Dominode) Drunk directly following Leroy's Bourgogne of the same year and more interesting in every dimension. Deep, meaty yet sweet fruity nose with an edge of vanilla. Good mouth perfume, fresher yet without the tart aspect of the Leroy. Concentrated, still some quite dry tannin but it's well covered by the fruit. Long finishing, still with a little vanilla. Very high quality for the price, and bought for cheaper than the Leroy too!
(Clair Bruno Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Dominode) From vines that were planted in 1902. A deep core of ruby, fading to cherry red. The nose has a super depth of slightly spicy black cherry. Intense black fruit that really holds into the finish. Good acidity and thick, velvetty, drying tannins. Very young and potentially a super wine.

Beautiful nose with nice signs of ageing. A little thin on the palate but fresh and fruity. Even after 16 years in a bottle.
