  • Buggered. Smelt worse than a wet dog rolled in a mouldy carpet. A huge disappointment.

  • Dinner with Justin, Ned, Neil & Mark.
Probably best red of the night. Very fresh and great depth of flavor.

  • Would have rated higher a few years ago, but still pretty good.

  • From our cellar. Purchased on release. What a wonderful wine. Our second bottle - the first one we had 12 years ago. This wine has evolved into a mature, sensuous wine. Very different now, but still amazing and in an excellent phase. Decanted for sediment and drank over 3 hours. The cork was in perfect shape. Immediately, a lovely plumy, earthy, leathery nose was evident in the room. Maroon with slightly browned edges, and cloudy. Palate was unforgettable - the kind that only a 20+ year old wine can develop. Full bodied, creamy, dense and very complex. Velvety smooth, so addictive, and a super long finish. Plums, berries, spices, vanilla, pepper, touch of oak, licorice, eucalyptus. Perfectly paired with our Australian rack of lamb and sweet potatoes. It has the stuffing to go another 10+ years or longer, but why wait? Life is short, enjoy it now. For us, it brought back all the memories of that glorious year we spent living in OZ. What a great start to the holidays. Cheers!

  • Well, nobody is going to be calling this Rhone but it's got a cooling vein of eucalyptus twisted into the thick, stewed blackberry fruit. Black pepper and an amalgam of warming spices round out the densely textured palate, finishing with good structure and acidity. Not as genre-defying as I expected, but well proportioned. My curiosity sated, I can move on the last couple bottles of Shiraz in the cellar.
