  • 1999 Coche Meursault: (Domaine & Selection) I’ve been wrestling with this for two days to try to figure out what’s its deal is. While it is definitely unduly advanced for its age I don’t think it is prematurely oxidized, or at least that isn’t the only issue. The nose has baked apple and cinnamon. Honey and cereal grain. The citrus is more of a synthetic pine-sol / lemon pledge now. The palate though has big mineral and acid with a fairly precise back palate and finish, and I think that would be all gone in a cooked or oxidized bottle. More in the way of heavy saffron and botrytis, to an incorrect and unpleasant extent. Have had one or two Testavin bottlings of Coche but never a Domaine & Selection, and this is proving very strange. Not comparable to the last two times I’ve had ‘99 Coche Meursault, or really any other Coche at all. Disappointing both comparatively and absolutely.
