  I must admit I am not a big fan of alcohol-laden New World red wines. Often overdone in many ways they mostly come across as too sweet for my liking and have been ruined with too much oak. This example from Beyerskloof though is different. Despite its 14% alcohol it manages to retain a decent amount of acidity and a certain freshness that makes it quite enjoyable. Yes, its blueberry fruit accompanied by coffee, dark chocolate and some smoke is rather sweet but the wine never drifts into the jammy territory that I hate so much. Might very well enjoy a bottle of this from time to time.

  Interesting blend from South Africa - don't have a lot of experience here - new @ MLCC at a good price. A little young maybe. I like the complexity - initial nose was total tobacco and fruit, mellowed with time. Palate is medium to full bodied lots of fruit, berry, cherry, and clearly some smoke - but nicely balanced.
