  • A bottle I've had in the cellar about 20 years. V511 on the cork, if anyone can decode that.
Fairly deep straw colour. Nice mousse on pouring, and lovely persistent stream of tiny bubbles in the glass.
Lots of buttery brioche on the nose, pear fruit and some kaffir lime leaf florality. Lovely depth and complexity on the nose.
Remarkably fresh tasting (much fresher than the colour would have you believe). Perfectly balanced, and really rather satisfying. Has more of the weight and character that I associate now with English Sparkling Wine rather than other French grande marques.
Nice richness, even the slightest hint of caramel on the finish.

  • On a Singapore Airlines flight from New York to Frankfurt. Light lemon colour. Zesty lemon, green apple, light almond, light nuts, light biscuit, brioche, smoke, and chalky minerality, with great acidity, and great persistence. The mousse is ultra-fine, soft, and creamy. Beautifully balanced. Simply great!

  • V 731 on the cork, so disgorged apparently in 2007, which makes sense as I purchased on release in 2008. Pale golden colour, good bubbles. Beautifully balanced, fresh and an absolute delight to drink now. Probably needs food to show its power and character at its best….

  • V721 2001 base disgorged in 2007

Not much different than the last couple bottles. This bottling is in the zone right now. Not the most profound bottling but giving all its got right now.

Maillard mature terrific nose, a little honeyed with toast, orchard fruit and chalk. Intense yet lifted and poised. Mouthwateringly fresh and confused. Drinking at peak. Lifted intensity and poised. At peak.

(NV Krug Champagne Grande Cuvée Brut) A Chardonnay-based blend of as many as 10 different vintages, primarily from grand cru vineyards. Krug’s tête de cuvée, like the wines of Bollinger, is first barrel-fermented in neutral oak. Golden yellow in color, it has fresh, bold aromas of Bosc pear, Macintosh apples, nutmeg, and lemon meringue. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich with caramel, earth, and baking spices. The finish is long. The Shifting Landscape of Champagne

Rockss and Fruit

(NV Krug) New label which is kind of boring and even ugly. Old label was really classy. Don't know what they were thinking. If it ain't broke don't fix it. The wine was gorgeous. Just gets better every time I have it. Easily one of the most conisistent wineries in the world. Massive concentration allied with a seamlessness and utterly mindlowing complexity.
