Following closely on an actual burgundy, the next best thing from the Willamette. The vineyard bears the name of the wine-maker and proudly so. 2009 a ripe year and this is showing its aging capacity too. Not as perfumed as many of the White Rose wines and more ripe and jammy (maybe even venturing a little towards the northern California style (a little). Sumptuous and delightful and I would speculate several years still to be enjoyed.

In a beautiful place right now, and still plenty of life ahead of it. Pure, riper, fruit in a very elegant body. Lovely, fine tannins linger on the finish.

White Rose Estate private tasting (White Rose Winery): Am I correct in writing that this used to be called Vista Hills, but is now named after Jesus the winemaker? Perfumed, delicate aroma, very nice, balanced, dark cherry, baking spices, drink or hold for a while.

Willamette Valley - Tasted at winery: Younger vines, planted in 2001. Fruity, dark cherries, full tannins, grassy undertones. Nose was bright, fresh cherries, a bit of oak. the "Guillen" designation is for the winemaker, Jesus Guillen. With a couple more years cellar, this should mature wonderfully.

Fantastic for an 09 - in fact, one of the better 09s I’ve had. You brought joy to our table tonight. Well done Jesus. You are missed.
