  • Vertical of Clos Vougeot from 2005-1985 (Clos Vougeot): Roasted fruit aspects on the nose and palate. Color, from a regular bottle, not as evolved as the Gérard Raphet 2004 Clos Vougeot, from magnum… Says much about 2004, in this case. Sweet red fruit on the palate. Succulent. There is juice, but rather meaty, tertiary. A lovely delivery overall, as my pal, the Norwegian wine expert, Christer Byklum said: “extremely smooth, beautiful balance.” Yup, and with a long finish.

  • This was a relatively big wine for a burgundy with prominent fruits and extraction. The nose was full of sweet and slightly stewed fruit. The palate was really full and really viscous but luxurious and lush. This has a really nice lengthy and lengthy finish. Perfect for drinking and a very pleasant and easy drinking wine at this point of time.

  • Booze Monstrous 6 O'Clock tasting (Equinox @ Swissotel): Light red. Very closed up and letting up only a sliver of vegetal notes. Digging deeper , I get some wet mushrooms. However, it did progressively reveal some sweet bread and raspberry fruits. Full structured wine with bitter herbs lining the finish. Some heat showing. This is not so much a thinking wine as to a wine that tries to think. More dark oaky plum cherries surface nearer the end.

  • Booze Monstrous 6 O'Clock tasting (Equinox, Singapore): Slightly darker red than the other wines in the vertical, this was rather closed and very funky, with wet earth and bramble scents intermingled with a little off-putting open gutter stink. Very distracting, so it took ahwile to get to the sweet candied fruit, reminiscent of stewed raspberries. The funk did subside a little and evovled into a more leathery tone, but more or less remained there thoughout. The palate showed remarkably good balance for a 2003 wine, but I still found the acid a little low. There was the typical 2003 sweet fruit, but this were subdued under a bitter, Chinese-medicinal character that seemed to coat the mouth along with the chalky tannins. Finish was okay, with more oaky naunces than the other vintages. I would have expected more from a Bouchard Grand Cru, even if it was just Clos de Vougeot and from a poor-ish vintage.
