Consumed off the pop and pour on New Year's day with ground chuck pot roast and roasted root vegetables. Sappy, inky black with a dark purple glow. The nose took about 20-min to open up and delivered very potent sweet notes of kirsch, blackcurrant, Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, creme de cassis, and baked blackberry pie. The palate was full, round, soft, and a bit thin, bringing more dark blackcurrant notes with roasted plums, dark cherries, blackberries, candied raspberries, vanilla bean, rich milk chocolate, espresso coffee, and cherry cobbler. The finish is silky and sweet with elegant tannins and a refined feel. Overall, this is a highly extracted style that is missing a savory core (to offset all the sweetness) and brings a weak, acidic frame. Still, we nevertheless enjoyed this with our meal. Drink before 2020. Technical score: 89. Enjoyment score: 92.

This was good but did not live up to the (lofty) expectations for it. Some classic Napa flavors opened it up but then a somewhat unpleasant acidity took over after 30 mins or so. Not sure what happened with this one as it didn't taste like any signs of age.

Plum, ripe blackberry, cassis, warm spice and hint of eucalyptus on the nose. Color is dark magenta and very pretty with a full body showing up on the sides of the glass. Delicious palate filled with bright blackberries and plums framed by spice, vanillan and soft, but, present tannins. Drinking well now with a little decanting and will go for another 5+ years. It will be interesting to see if the wine shuts down for a few years and then opens up creating a longer life expectancy, but, I don't think so. I am going to buy some more and see what happens!

A little weak. Nice color, decent nose but lacking in structure, tannin, & depth.
