Never a great port, this has nevertheless changed into something quite agreeable at age 13. Broodingly dark colour, plummy nose unfortunately dominated by spirity alcohol; you really scent the spirit that has been added to the wine. A mouthfull of rather nice, medium to sweet port wine, simple but satisfying. Short and alcoholic aftertaste. Maybe more time would have allowed for the alcohol to integrate better, but this is my last bottle ... And probably, this wine will always be a little shy to support all this alcohol. Would have been much better with 3% less alcohol.

Simple fruit nose: strawberries and alcohol. Equally simple and slightly hot taste. Finishes smoothly and fruitily. Not very convincing. But drinkable.

This Castelinho makes it final for me: I don't believe that Castelinho produces a single port that's worth buying or drinking. A weak port that hardly has the body of a LBV, is dominated by sour fruit, and chemical flavours. Not as bad as the 1999 VP but still quite bad.

Dark purplish colour, pruny alcoholic nose (the eau-de-vie is not completely integrated), chocolaty taste. Not much tannin. I suspect this will come together in the next few years; no signs of fatigue yet. Overall fairly simple but correct.
