Colour does not give away the age for what is essentially a Chianti. Medium to deep ruby; forward nose of pure dark fruit, mostly cherry with a hint of earth and balsamic notes. Palate is rich, balanced, with little more complexity of forest floor. Decent finish. Such pleasure to drink and many years left.

I decanted and strained my Fontalloro, and then I let it aerate for about an hour. There was a bit of sediment in the bottle. The 2008 Fontalloro is at its prime, but I think that it will last another ten years. I enjoyed it over two evening's. There is still a bit of tannin, and a fair amount of fruit. Is it worth $70 a bottle? $60 would be better.

Double-decanted to remove the sediment. Red cherry and raspberry fruit, dried tomatoes and dried herbs. After a while in the glass, spicy seasoning pops up and nicely expands the aroma profile. The palate adds an element of aging with a bit of wet earth, but otherwise intense fruit. Still pretty tangible tannin and high on acidity.

Mmm, this is sleek. An alluring nose of black cherry, oregano, shoe polish, and faint hints of balsamic. The palate is still quite taut, dark/bitter cocoa, but then moving to cranberry and sour cherry, salty with mineral and slate. Mmm, this is clean, dark and brooding, but not remotely heavy. Just a beautiful expression of Sangiovese.
