  • This was unfortunately more than halfway in the grave when we got to it. Upon popping and pouring, the nose on the wine actually gave some hope. It clearly smelt very old, but was decent enough with its notes of black cherries, smoke, ash topped up with tons of soil, wet earth and sous bois. It was only the odd metallic twang about it that raised any alarm bells. Apart from that, it was actually quite a nice bouquet if you like your stuff barnyardy. Unfortunately the palate was as dead as a door nail, with a little burst of raisiny flavours on the attack that quickly faded over a midpalate lined with lots of acidity. It wad actually quite tart here and into the emaciated finish were skinny fruit sounded with a metallic ring, before the wine dropped dead with a kiss of spice. Pity. This really was unusually developed and tired for a 1982 left-bank - a wine that passed away before its time.
