Rating influenced by how well it has aged. This wine is singing if also peaking. I love secondary notes on Syrah which this contains. Mouth feel has levity and good finishing structure.

If this was given to me blind there’s no way I’m placing it anywhere but Northern Rhone.
After two hours in the decanter a deeply savoury nose of smoke, leather and olive tapenade, leavened with violets, oak and dark fruits.
On the palate, violets, plum and black cherry followed quickly by the savoury hit of smoke, tapenade roasted meat and leather as the tannins announce themselves. Interspersed amongst this are vanilla notes from the oak, but the tannins and acidity grip the back palate as the wine makes an longish exit.
I really like this wine. It’s certainly a world away from the Everything and the kitchen sink fruit bombs I’ve had too often from California. If I had a better palate and more experience I’m sure the fruit intensity would give away its Californian roots, but for me the uncompromising tannin and acids together with the lovely earthy elements are the money shots that get me excited.

All the classic Hermitage/Syrah notes in the full nose: roast meat, bacon, tar/creosote. Very full rich mouth feel. Tannins are present but no unpleasant. Drinkable now and probably for the next 5-6 years.
