California Syrah (Webster Wine Bar): Medium dark ruby and translucent at the edge. Nose has delicious, forward black fruit with complicating herb and tar notes. Medium bodied palate with with juicy, lifted and lively fruit. Really enjoy the energy in this wine. Some herbs and spice, but this is largely about the suave mature black fruit. An enjoyable mature Cali Syrah. Holding well, but don't think this gets any better.

The Rotating Dinners, I.1: California Syrah (Chicago, IL): Alluring nose. A bit between red and black fruit, this also shows quite a bit of black pepper and meat. The tannins on the palate are a bit astringent, but there's also really nice acidity. The palate shows much more earth and much less fruit than the nose would imply -- this seems like it's on the verge of drying out.

This has a very nice nose, with very attractive black fruits - nicely sweet fruit, but in a quite a Rhoney style. There's very definitely a similarity to the two Cornas wines on the nose. The palate is lovely and precise, but with a great mouthfilling luxuriousness behind. Very enjoyable and approachable, without being in a flabby overfruity style. The Thierry Allemand Cornas was the best wine of the night, but this is by far the most drinkable red of the night.
