Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over two hours.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of boysenberries, thatch and plums. Flavors of boysenberries, plums and a hint of cassis on the finish. Medium acidity, drying tannin, medium to full body. Drink now. Probably just a smidge past prime right now but we bought this while visiting the winery and brought it back with us so provenance is impeccable. Has held together 3-4 years longer than I would've expected.

  • For some, this might be "too old". For me, it's fantastic. Perfectly resolved, with a lot of secondary / tertiary character. My backstop...my wife, who hates anything approaching "over the hill", said...."this is an absolutely lovely wine". Another data point one way or the other.

Don't get me wrong...I wouldn't want to wait a lot more years to drink my remaining bottle, but this one was a pleasant surprise to be sure. The fruit, yes, it's diminished. But the overall package....very alluring. Very nice for a 15 year old bottle that the experts said wouldn't last this long. For those that like something more fresh and fruit forward, you might no longer enjoy this. Feel free to send me your bottles :)

Addendum - this has been stored in my auxiliary cellar (basement), no temperature control. Bottles stored with more care might be even better.

  • Cork was in poor shape. Bottle did not taste off. Nose was weak, but hinted at cherry and raspberry. The wine complemented an Italian meal and it held up to the food quite well. The fruit has faded and there is some acidity left, but not much to add complexity and depth. Relatively simple, understated, but enjoyable.

  • Took to friends for Christmas. Everyone liked it. It still has some life left. Recommend

  • Camphor and some earth on the nose. On the palate, cherry, currants, vanilla, and a hint of new leather, with acidity that isn't quite sufficient to balance the fruit and oak influence. If I can still pick up the vanilla from the oak after a dozen years, they must have used a lot of it! This is tasty and goes down easily, but it's a bit one-dimensional and boring on its own; it would be better matched with rich and/or spicy food. Based on the fading acidity, it may be a bit past its peak -- drink it now if you have it.
