  • Just ruby colored, but everything else is concentrated and tasty. Red and black cherry, bright acidity, and firm tannins. The texture is smooth and mouth watering. The swallow adds a wonderful pomegranate fruit and a tingle in the mouth. Still needs a few years to reach a peak of delight. Or, drink with food that adds fat and richness, such as turkey meatballs with cranberry sauce.

  • Dark color with deep and delicious fruit flavors of black cherry and black plum. The texture in the mouth is smooth and caressing. The aftertaste is not just long, but includes a distinct flavor spike. The acidity is refreshing without being sour, and the tannins are drying without being harsh. The back label of this wine touts how Burgundian the wine is, but the ironic truth is that the dark, rich, and fruity taste of this wine, that makes Russian River Pinots so distinct and special, are less commonly found in red Burgundies. At 6 years old, this wine has just entered its peak of quality, which should last for another 6 years.

  • OFS for DeLoach = Our Finest Selection, aka Reserve. We had no problem with a 91 on this, nearly a 92. It took a while to really open up, even after letting it breathe for half an hour. That tells us it will likely improve a tad into 2015 and maybe 16. It is dark for a Pinot. Strong aromas and taste of black cherry/dates (hint of sweetness) on the front end, cedar/wood on the back end. Medium finish, in between medium-bodied and robust. This is exceptionally food-friendly, given the acidity and the 15% alcohol is largely well-integrated, overall a great balanced Pinot with more heft than most. We love (and highly recommend) DeLoach's entry level Russian River Pinots that market at around $20...we have rated those in the 88-89 range, but this OFS takes it to another level. Think we paid just under $30 for this...great QPR if we ever find this again...

  • Rich, ripe cherries, a touch of cola. Spice and a little toasty oak on the end. Really good pinot for under $30.
