Northern Rhône (Noizé): This is great - others (with more experience of this house) found more nuanced differences between this and the 07 - but to me this was just MORE - more taut energy, more substance, more clarity - there's no waffling here, no messing about - this is the real deal. Not my wine of the night, but perhaps the one I'd most like to try again.

This bottle of 2010 Pierre Gonon St. Joseph opened with an insane nose of cabbage and burnt hay, not unlike a Rayas CdP. The palate was more brooding - dark, stewed fruit and a long finish of green and white pepper and orange rind. Still young and tannic and can gain a point or two in another few years but my wife and I were glad to try this cult producer. 93+/100 for now.
Opened tonight with rack of lamb. Absolutely gorgeous: silky texture, lush red-berry Syrah fruit, generous acidity and an animale character that added to its overall complexity. I would put this wine in league with the Verset Cornas wines I've had in the past, just simply beautiful. It no doubt will continue to evolve, but depending on your tastes it may not get much better than it is right now.

Rounding off well. Black olives, dark fruit, nice acidity, a sweet note as well. Certainly no hurry here; convincing.
