Jaggerfest 2017 (Harwood Arms, Fulham, London): Alive and very drinkable. It's earthy, fresh sharp and quite austere, for all the sense of raspberries and sweetness in the middle. Bracing and interesting rather than delicious.

Jaggerfest 2017 (Harwood Arms, London): Mid garnet. Nicely complex nose, fireside spice, worn leather, just a touch of woodiness but not in a corked way. Sweet-fruited, a touch of caramel and some sous-bois. The slight woodiness carries through to the palate but it's all remarkably together. Remarkably sweet core. This feels genuinely old ripe Pinot. ****

I wouldn't normally open a wine like this for a family Sunday dinner, but I'd noticed the day before that the cork had fallen in and so was expecting it to be shot. But no. Dark, brown red, some earthy tones, on the palate still alive, some sweetness to the fruit, a touch of tannin. In truth, this was a pleasant old wine, still with plenty of life, but not hugely characterful
