An amazing wine from the pre-amphora period in Gravner's career. Merlot and Cabernet with a distinctive Italian, high altitude tone. Sweet, clear sour berry fruit, relatively little in the way of tertiary notes. Clear, well-made, well-balanced. Still amazingly youthful at 26 years old.

At 22 years this wine seems almost ageless. Dense ruby red with no signs of bricking. Needed an hour to open fully, when it showed smoke and dark berry fruit, olive wood and white pepper. Well structured. Moderate finish. I do not know if Gravner was as experimental in this period as he came to be later, but whatever he did, it worked.
