Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Reddy brown in colour. Quite a plumy nose common with older wines but not repugnet. Smooth and soft with a brown character on the palate. Not at it's prime but more drinkable than many other wines I have opened. This is a magnum which was purchased from Owen Redman back in the early 1980s and stored in semi good conditions. In fact when I opened it the cork had dislodged and fallen into the bottle and the only thing holding the wine in was the capsule!!! I decantered for a few hours and it turned out to be quite drinkable - very surprising. Owen always boosted that his wines would last longer than grange (at a fraction of the cost) but I think this wine is more a fluke than anything else. Unique experience on a Sunday evening. Scores don't count on this age of wine.
