Ruby-mature color. Nose is spectacular. Asian five spice, earthy, soft dried cherries. Scent is slightly jammy. On the palate, this is a nice premier cru Volnay at peak. I suspected that it would take a long time to come around because Fremiets borders Pommard— and I’ve heard that some Fremiets taste like the latter. Earlier tasting notes from others confirm that suspicion. This one definitely seems more Volnay at this point in its evolution. Feminine with softer but adequate tannins. Nice finish.

Evolved visually and on the nose. Dry undergrowth, smoke, star anise, pot pourri and dried red berries. Light and delicate on the palette, not the complexity of the nose. The smoke and the berries are to the fore, wild strawberry, and the finish is beautiful and long, and exactly what I want from the appellation. There is also a beautiful spicy acidity. It really does have the feminine and delicate hallmarks of Volnay.

This was a bit of a disappointment for me given my expectations. The nose is lovely with red berry fruits, floral notes, hints of leather and spice. The palate however felt a bit rustic and tart, dominated by tough tannins that overwhelmed the flavor and shortened it. Seemed more like a robust Pommard than a Volnay. It was similar on day 2 after being open for 24 hours. I definitely think it is on the young side and may improve, but the balance doesn't seem to be there for the flavor and fruit to catch up with the tannin.

This was nice with genuine Volnay character but a disappointingly rustic finish. Was expecting something a little deeper and more elegant.
