This started out with a deep-pitched musky masculinity. Really Gevrey-like out of the gate with iron, game blood, and dark fruit - but not even a touch overripe. As the air got at the wine for a few hours, the wine changed quite a bit. It got lighter on its feet and opened up quite a bit and some wonderful red fruit joined the party (though at all times this remained a powerful Clos Vougeot). A wine made in a throwback style - and I really like it a lot. Was a very fine partner to a grilled striploin.

I had a little trepidation about this bottle...so many comments about this wine being undeserving of Grand Cru status...poor plot in the Clos...underachieving winemaking by Francois...yada yada. None of that was apparent in this glorious bottle from the great 2010 vintage. Gorgeous, balanced Clos Vougeot here. Excellent cool fruit. Proper structure to allow this wine to continue to age gracefully. A glass after dinner arrived was even better than the "tasting" pour earlier. At a Paulee event, this wine disappeared in a flash...one of the strongly preferred reds at the event.

Needs about 1 hour to open up, very pleasant and above average balance. No heat. Lacking in complexity of a grand cru which is the result of its position in the vineyard near the road. Overall very accessible but given the price point there are many other better options.

This is a wine with a structure not in harmony. THere is a lot of acidity and minerals which is nice but the fruit is very poor here. I do not take it down as fresh. It is more lack of fruit.

Vosne Millésime - Noblesse des Clos Vougeot - Les Grands Jours de Bourgogne (Château du Clos de Vougeot): Tasting. slightly floral with black cherry and boysenberry aromas. Similar fruit, slightly reticent for now, behind firm tannins and assertive acid. This will require more patience than the Echezeaux, and for me is one notch below, 90-92 point potential for me this morning.
