Beautiful ruby in color, with a very wide reddish rim. Bricking at the very top.
Light nose with red and black fruits, light cedar and tobacco leaf.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with black plums, currants, cherries, earth, black coffee, oak, herbs, vegetables, spices, tobacco leaf, dark chocolates and black tea.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This 26 year old from the great 1998 vintage in Southern Rhone is drinking beautifully now. Soft and smooth, elegant and earthy.
Not so good right out of the bottle, and needed 90 minutes of airtime to open up properly, so be patient.
Robert Parker 95 points. Wine Spectator 94 points.
Will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.
Showing nice complexity and good balance.
I paired it with a Charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.
14% alcohol by volume.
93 points.
$120 (current vintage).

Rich nose with hints of espresso roast, some rose hip syrup a little ground white pepper and some cassia bark. Palate is savoury, broad and red fruited. A little lift and some charming spice. Great with a Hawksmoor rib eye.

Wine dinner for a great charity (Samish Hill, Bellingham, WA): Still very bright and clean. Red fruit and garrigue, licorice, and a little iodine and moist earth. Out of a 750, it's not at all tired, but I won't hold my remaining bottle for long as it won't improve going forward, unless one prefers a purely tertiary CdP.

Surprisingly fresh at 25. Rumors of its demise are exaggerated. Beautiful fruit dominates the tertiary aromas and flavors. Cherry and grenadine, with licorice and spice notes. I haven't opened a CdP in 3 years, but this bottle brought me back to an old love of Southern Rhone wines.

Had hoped for more. Opened for an hour and was muted.
