  • Took a sample immediately after opening the bottle: lovely nose of leather and cherries. On the palate fruit was really thin with some tannic backbone. Was worried that this may be past it; a Right Bank, second wine, unexceptional vintage, more than 10 years old? Tried this a few more times every half hour to observe its development. By 2 hours, this was ready - pretty balanced, though nose is no longer as mesmerising. Decent fruit quality despite my earlier reservations. Drank over next 3 hours and overall this was nice and approachable. Not much in terms of structure, but very nicely integrated tannins with decent complexity on the mid-palate, with licorice and spice flavours dominant. Pretty enjoyable wine for my CNY steamboat/hotplate reunion lunch!
