We got a chance to taste a Napa Valley offering with a little bottle age. This is a heavy hitter wine that is on sale at around $50, so of course we expect to find layers of flavors and aromas. The nose started off really awesome. We could smell a mature fruit, close to Cognac style, slightly raisiny aroma when glass was a couple of feet from the nose. Although more than 6 years off the vine, in some ways, this is still a young wine. There are layers of still pretty gritty, lingering tannins. The flavors have matured nicely to the point where most of them are non fruit: cedar, mocha, canned mushrooms and forest floor. The blend is 50% Cabernet Franc, 39% Merlot, 6% Malbec, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, picked at almost perfect ripeness. The finish seems a little candied with some cigar tobacco leaf flavors with cherry and plum.

Drank side by side with angels peak. More to this one. Definitely a cab franc but not over done
