Two 2010 red Burgs drunk side-by-side: Quite bright ruby colour, dark and primary looking. Drunk from Zalto Denk'Art Burgundy stem to accentuate the aromatics. Also, drunk over three evenings, during which it changed little. After some early reduction blew off (after 3-4 hours), a bouquet of black cherries, blackcurrants, damp peaty soil, cloves, wet brush and a little animale funk (a positive, not a negative). In the mouth, showing real Beaune Grèves typicity and terroir. Tart black cherries, wild blackberries, balsamic vinegar, espresso, black earth and suggestions of tar and black liquorice. Pure and clean. More (seeming) ripeness, body, weight and power than the Narbantons. Moderate alcohol (13.5%). Tannins fine grained and largely resolved. Bright acidity gives focus. Good length. Now seemingly at a peak. To drink over the next decade and a half. Preferred over the Pavelot. 92+.
