  • I know and love this wine but this 1.5 liter bottle was not up to Clos des Papes usual standards.Tannins not fully integrated, dark fruits muted. Decanted about 3 hours. I think it needed more air rather than time in the bottle. Next (and last) large format I’ll decant overnight.

  • From magnum.
Classic nose of herbs, olives, tobacco, deep black cherry fruit.
Lovely and fresh on the palate, delicious ripe fruit framed by bright acidity, tannins there but quite resolved. Nice energy and purity.
    Really good, classic CNDP.

  • Drank on Easter Sunday with Lamb Chops and an assortment of spring veggies. Somewhere in between medium garnet and deep tawny in color. Tertiary aromas coming off the nose from the jump with sweet leather and stewed mixed berries. Palate was very nice with mostly resolved tannins. Aged leather, sumac, and mixed berries coming through, with blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and a wild spice character giving structure on the finish. This still had life left, but was very nicely integrated. I don't have much experience with Southern Rhone wines on the "nicer" spectrum, but this was real treat. Like an old cowboy - Rough around the edges, but the age has given wisdom and mellowed him out. Fantastic with Lamb.

  • Nose - spicy, like pepper but not overpowering
Body - complex, but well aged with hints of strawberry and pepper. Low tannins, low acidity, medium body. I had this decanted for 2 hours before serving and was a great wine!

  • This bottle was off - may not have been stored well. Was not what I’d normally expect of Clos des Papes

(Clos de Papes) I thought was a mess. Hot, out of balance, lacking fruit..just blehhhh.......yes there was some herbs de provence but they were soaked in licorice ethanol. I so don't like CDP anymore.

(Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape) Horseradish and rich nose; big, tasty, cherry, bramble palate, but young and tight yet; long finish 92+ pts.
