  • Improved from last year, but I'll hold my last bottle for another year at least. I decanted this wine for an hour or so and it was much smoother than at pnp. Better the next day. I'd buy more if it became available. Good with pizza and fairly spicy chicken the next day.

  • Nice wine for the price. Good fruit, barely perceptible tannins. Wish I had more. Not a big wine, went well with spicy Italian sausage in a marinara sauce. Not big enough for steak or other high-fat meats.

  • PnP. Semi-opaque purple coloring with nice legs. Nose is cherry and red stone fruit, with some earthy undertones. Needs a bit of time to open up. After some breathing, nice initial fruitiness. Bright notes with a bit of bite from acidity. Some tannins appear mid-palate. Good structure - the flavor notes sustain and develop through mid palate. Finish is forward, but sustains and holds very nicely. The whole package integrates quite nicely. I think this is drinking quite nicely now, with some breathing time, and my guess is that it might hold for a bit longer. I like this quite a bit. While it does have a forward presence this is not a bomb. Although it stands nicely on its own (just as I'm quaffing it now), it should also go well with a a variety of foods. Probably not quite strong enough to stand up to a prime rib or steak, but it should go quite well with a lot of entrees that are not quite that heavy or intense.

I'm composing this note while sipping my second glass, and I'm noting that this is growing more and more on me. The flavors sustain and continue to develop. If I'm not careful I can easily finish most of the bottle tonight, paying the price in the morning. Rated good, verging on very good (84 to 87). At $15 delivered from wine.woot I think this is close to an autobuy.

Update from second day: The added time has really opened this wine up. The nose is more muted, but the palate notes of strawberry, cherry, plum and a bit of spice immediately come out and persist. Also some bite and heat, but they all work together. Tannins are also much present and evident. Very delightful. This is much more fruitier and forward on the second day. So if that's what you prefer, give it time open (PnVnD, perhaps) and you should be rewarded. If you prefer it more restrained, give it just a bit of breathing time.

Based on the second day, I'm giving this a two-point bump, very good, pushing excellent (86 to 89). That's put s it in the top 5 of scores I've given to a wine to date.
