Interesting nose dominated by creosote/charred wood. In addition, there are some interesting herbal (thyme/rosemary) shadings as well as a minerally, earthy character. The palate is still bright and fresh and was absolutely fantastic with grilled sockeye salmon and a Dijon mustard sauce! Now alone and after in decanter, it stays fresh, but lacks fruit. Hints of sour and black cherries, as well as the same herbs from the nose. The creosote character isn't nearly as dominant here and doesn't detract from the palate at all. Clearly in decline, but still quite delicious, this should be consumed sooner rather than later. 89 df 9.0

Very deep ruby color - clearly very extracted. On the nose, ripe black fruit with some VA. On the palate, rich ripe fruit, and so much fruit that the tannins are completely masked on the attack and in the mid-palate. More distracting VA. Finish is remarkably long, with firm tannins, good minerality. This wine is a caricature of a modern Burgundy. So much ripe fruit on the attack that the wine is sweet. Only when the fruit drops off are the firm tannins even noticeable. Not my style of wine. Perhaps in 5 or 10 years it will taste like Volnay - now it doesn't. Well, there are 2 more bottles for the experiments to come.

From a 375. No VA on this one. Very nice old Burgundy nose. Acid too pronounced. Nice long finish. A much better bottle than my last one.

From a 375. VA and over the hill as first impression. Neither problem severe enough to dump the bottle. Acid showing too strong.

Overwhelming brett nose. Dry and clipped in the mouth. The oak tanin is fighting with the brett but the brett is winning.Too bad.
