With the core showing a deep purple and the rim a magenta, the color doesn’t reflect any downhill age slide at all. Nor does the nose or palate with plum, red currents, leather, mint, pine resin and, a flaw: steeped tea. An interesting wine that is fully resolved but will hold its own easily for another 3 or 5 years. The tannins lend an almost walnut like complexity with a dusty texture. I don’t recall what the flaw of over-steeped tea is, but it is present in this wine. But for that element, it would be an excellent wine; with it, it is but a very good wine. Some sediment, but not a lot. 13% alc. A blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Petit Verdot. With grilled ribeyes and horseradish sauce with side of smashed grilled potato and grilled (beef) red onion. Interestingly, the charred flavors of the grilled red onion were some the best pairings with the wine .... perhaps some caramelized complexity going on. Recommended.

Thursday, February 17, 2005 Deep color. Still a very young wine. Clearly not Bordeaux on the nose, but somewhat old world nonetheless with red fruit, cloves, cherry and chocolate. Suggestive of Washington Cab. MHR and BA guess Andrew Will - a good guess. With MHR and Ben Anderson with bolognese MHR style. Prior to Rednecks & Red Rhones
